NGAPALA ARTS REGENERATION PROJECT

Copley, Flinders Ranges

April - September 2024

Expanding upon the business development support provided to Ngapala Arts during 2023, Ku Arts is delivering workshops and wrap-around business administration support throughout 2024 at Ngapala Arts. Ku Arts will provide on-the-ground artsworker training and update gallery-related technology to revitalise the gallery presence and sales within community.

Ngapala Arts has seen significant success since Ku Arts began supporting business and artists in accessing profile-raising opportunities. As an outcome of Ku Arts workshops, artists have exhibited ceramics during the Tarnanthi Art Fairs 2021 and 2023, participated in a JamFactory exhibition at Sepplesfield in the Barossa 2022, Lesley Coulthard was the 2023 Don Dunstan Our Mob Prize Winner, and Donna Coulthard is a finalist in the 2024 National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Art Awards. Ku Arts congratulates all artists on these incredible outcomes.

During the Regeneration Project, Ku Arts will support artists in purchasing technology to aid in the business aspects of their studio and gallery. Ku Arts will also provide valuable access to cataloguing software alongside training to enable and empower artists at Ngapala Arts to run more independently and successfully. Technology upgrades include the vital installation of a satellite to provide internet to the gallery.

Alongside business development support, Ngapala Arts is supported by established South Australian Ceramacist, Ashlee Hopkins. Ashlee will return to Copley to deliver three one-week workshops, providing the artists with creative development opportunities to work towards entries for major awards and exhibitions. Ashlee is also providing support and teaching across technical areas of the studio with the goal of artists feeling confident and empowered to run all aspects of their studio including glazing and kiln operation.

The 2024 Ngapala Arts Regeneration was made possible through Arts SA Project Grants; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grants
