KULINTJA PALYA

ALICE SPRINGS

APRIL 2024

Kulintja Palya is a professional development program established by Ku Arts for art centre staff and managers to access skills development and training opportunities. This year, Ku Arts partnered with Iwiri to deliver a two-day intensive workshop delivered in Alice Springs focusing on Pitjantjatjara language and Cultural awareness directed at Art Centre Staff.

The Kulintja Palya workshop gave remote community workers important insights into culture, language, trauma, social issues, and family dynamics. It highlighted the importance of using the Pitjantjatjara language for trauma response and explained how family and kinship structures affect the workplace.

The workshop also covered the history of the APY Lands to help understand past and current community interactions. Its focus on cultural sensitivity and effective communication being crucial for improving engagement and support practices for Art Centre staff.

Six participants attended the workshop, including staff from Ernabella Arts, Ninuku Arts, and Tjungu Palya. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, providing feedback about how beneficial they found it and expressing eagerness for similar future opportunities.
